Professor of Economics
Konstantin Sonin is a Vice Rector and Professor of Economics at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, Russia, and a Research Associate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), London. Sonin is co-founder of the joint HSE-NES Bachelor of Arts Program. Until August 2013, he was Professor of Economics and Vice Rector at the New Economic School.
In 2004, Sonin received the Gold Medal of the Global Development Network for his paper on the sources of political demand for bad institutions (silver medals were awarded for his research in 2006 and 2008). His papers appeared in leading academic journals in economics (Quarterly Journal of Economics, American Economic Review, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Law, Economics, and Organization) and political science (American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science).
His column on economics and politics appears weekly in Vedomosti, the leading Russian business daily, published jointly by WSJ and FT, and fortnightly in The Moscow Times. He is a frequent contributor to Russian leading printed and electronic media, and a prominent blogger on economic and political matters.
